Google Trends for Websites provides Detailed Traffic Statistics

Google Trends for Websites is a new project of Google Labs that provides detailed traffic statistics based on searches made through the google search engine. It provides a service quite similar to that of Alexa, which has been heavily criticized by webmasters as being too inaccurate. Alexa bases its rankings on the statistics it gathers through its Alexa Toolbar, so if a visitor visits your site with the alexa toolbar installed only then will it be counted as a hit. This ofcourse makes it quite unaccurate. Google Trends for Websites however is based on provide rankings and traffic statistics based on searches and clicks made through the google search engine, which in my opinion makes it more of a reliable tool.

Here is an image of comparing traffics from Facebook and Myspace:

Download Megavideo Videos using 3 Different Methods

Launched as a rival to youtube, megavideo has seen immense growth since its birth. Megavideo was officially launched on August 10th, 2007 to directly compete with youtube. You may remember my last post about downloading megavideo videos back on 13th november(one of my first posts on this blog). I talked about a site called clipnabber which allowed you to download flv files from a number of video streaming sites such as megavideo, youtube, dailymotion, metacafe, google videos, etc. They were a solid site and one of the first to integrate megavideo into the mix but their service has declined in recent months and you can no longer download videos from megavideo. Good news for you megavideo fans is that there are a number of other methods by which you can download megavideo videos. I will be mentioning three such methods today which are guaranteed to work at the time of writing this post and due to their timeless nature, should probably work for many many more months to come.

First Method to Download Videos from Megavideo
Install the popular firefox extension called Downloadhelper. It is able to download any streaming content running in your firefox browser, so you can easily download videos from ANY video streaming sites with a single click. I personally use this method for downloading megavideo videos and it hasn’t let me down so far. It is simple to use and you can find all instructions at their FAQ page. If you are not able to understand their FAQ to learn how to use the extension, then no worries, I will give you a short step-by-step manual to download videos from megavideo.

Pair Networks experiences

I’ve written before about how hard it is to find a good hosting provider, and how Ipowerweb and Hosting Zoom didn’t quite work for me. It’s hard to get good advice with all the lucrative referral programs, which seem to have spawned a whole genre of fake hosting review websites. That’s why I thought I’d share my experiences with Pair Networks. If you’re looking for a good, reliable host and are willing to spend a bit more, I suggest you read on.

Setup

I moved my personal sites from Hosting Zoom to Pair four and a half months ago, and setup was about as easy as it gets. Pair does not use CPanel, so I had to move the sites manually, but it really only took me a couple of hours, and was no trouble at all.

my.pair.com

It took me a while before I felt at home in Pair’s own control panel, but it’s really very well designed, and incorporates ticket support and billing. All explanatory text are also very clear, unlike in CPanel. I actually prefer my.pair.com over CPanel, even though I’ve used the latter for quite a while and had gotten used to its layout and quirks.
